Cystinuria

Cystinuria is an inherited autosomal recessive disease that is characterized by the formation of cystine stones in the kidneys, ureter and bladder.   Cystinuria is a cause of persistent kidney stones. It is a disease involving the defective transepithelial transport of cystine and dibasic amino acids in the kidney and intestine, and is one of many causes of kidney stones. If not treated properly, the disease could cause serious damage to the kidneys and surrounding organs, and in some rare cases death.

  2. I have two cystinuric sons. It is a life of constant pain, stomach aches, throwing up, and medical bills. Yet, they both have an amazing zest for life. They know how bad it can be, and they also know how great it can be. And yes, it hurts like nothing you could ever imagine. Worse than childbirth.

  3. Hi I also have Cystinuria and have also had many stones removed the awareness of Cystinuria is still not very recognised in Australia and that is the main problem as there are fewer sufferers in Australia the drug companies feel that it's not worth there time making Tiopronin available to us there are other drugs of course like urocit-k, penicilamine, and captopril which can have side effects but Tiopronin has fewer side effects.
